Week 102: 7th Legion

7th Legion (33.4Mb)

7th Legion… well, this game is somewhat similar to Command & Conquer. “Yes, another C&C clone,” you may think, but this game is somewhat unique in a way.
The story is about two factions, the 7th Legion and The Chosen. It takes place in a future in which the Earth has been overpopulated and its precious natural resources are running out! Many scientists broadcast warnings of impending doom! The governments of Earth enact the PEP – the Planetary Evacuation Program – to safely get everyone off Earth into space on massive Colony ships, thus giving the planet a chance to heal.

• 15 Awe-inspiring heroes to defend the tower with

• A unique scoring scheme that rewards taking risk and playing smart

Shellblast was originally given away on the 20th Nov 07 and again back in August 2008 then again July of last year. The first time it was given away it received a 67% thumbs up with 60 comments and then only 32% with 38 comments and then 31% with 38 comments; (though these low figures could have been partly to do with the vacation period). Today’s version is the same version as last years game, though it has been updated from previous versions prior to last year. (from v1.3 to v1.31) The game now comes with an installer, so you can install the game with just a few mouse clicks and get a shortcut on the desktop though there’s none in the start menu (I’ve explained how you can create one if you prefer start menu shortcuts below).

The downloaded zip file is 22Mb which unpacks to a dual set up and activation module and a read me. The installed game is 22.2Mb in size. The game installs to

C:\Program Files\ShellBlast 1.31 (unless your O.S. is installed to a different drive)

Week 99: Battle for Wesnoth (RPG)

The Battle for Wesnoth (265.83Mb)

The Battle for Wesnoth has recieved a few updates since I posted a link to the game here in the forums about 2 years ago. There was no information or images posted so here’s some for you now. The download is quite large, so, if you only have dial up I would suggest you use a download manager (just in case you lose the link and have to start over again)

Build up a great army, gradually turning raw recruits into hardened veterans. In later games, recall your toughest warriors and form a deadly host against whom none can stand! Choose units from a large pool of specialists, and hand-pick a force with the right strengths to fight well on different terrains against all manner of opposition.

Wesnoth has many different sagas waiting to be played out. Fight to regain the throne of Wesnoth, of which you are the legitimate heir… step into the boots of a young officer sent to guard a not-so-sleepy frontier outpost… vanquish a horde of undead warriors unleashed by a foul necromancer, who also happens to have taken your brother hostage… guide a band of elvish survivors in an epic quest to find a new home.

You can find more information and the home site of the developers HERE Continue reading

Week 99: Bubblestorm (catching bubbles)

Bubblestorm (1.24Mb)

At first it may seem like a rather simple take on MINDistortion’s earlier effort, Bubbles until you realize it doesn’t have any of the bonus pick-ups which made Bubbles so much fun, though it does have a slow down and get rid of the red bubbles power ups. Never the less, Bubblestorm is good quality all of its own and plays more like an arena shooter where you have no bullets. Continue reading

Week 95: Conflict

Conflict – Middle East Political Simulator (<1Mb)

Conflict is a Historical Managerial Strategy Top Down Turn Based Warfare game created by Mastertronic Group Ltd in 1990 and distributed by Virgin Mastertronic.
Put into the role of the new Israeli Prime Minister in January 1997 just after the previous one was assassinated, you are thrust into the corrupt world of fantasy Middle Eastern politics.

As Prime Minister (PM), you need to make diplomatic relations with your neighbors either for better or worse, whichever suits you, and make sure you stay on top at all times. You don’t need to worry about Lebanon or Jordan. The countries of Egypt, Syria, Iraq, and Iran, should be your top priorities. I’ll explain this in further detail.
